I have been really lucky in life in that I seem to live in locales that are surrounded by vineyards. The Pacific Northwest is one of those places. There is something about a vineyard -- a bit of mystery and a lot of romance.
Don't ask why -- it is just the feeling I have whenever I visit one. Right before the harvest, the colors are nothing short of lush -- the various colors of grapes set against the lush green leaves mixed with the robust browns of the vines . The weeks following the harvest and the crush however, are simply my favorite. While there are lingering hints of green, the bright
yellows, oranges and warm browns of the full grape leaves is stunning. With the shorter days, the setting sun makes for long shadows and emphasizes the brilliant colors of the foliage. I find it all very inspiring.
If you haven't had the good fortune to visit a vineyard or two -- you should make plans to do so sometime soon. And, don't feel like you have to wait for the harvest -- any time during the year is a great time to experience the splendor of a vineyard and the people who work so hard throughout the year to make it all happen.
