So much confusion – do you layer or should you stack? The question is are these two very different styling mantras or are they really just different words for the same thing? Personally, I think I use the words interchangeably; but maybe I’ve been wrong all these years? Sure as heck wouldn’t be the first time and I am sure it’s not going to be the last! Do you layer necklaces but stack bracelets? Head spinning? I know mine is…well, it does all the time; but that’s another story best left for another day! Back to the jewelry and I’ll try to stay on track here! Lay down your bets now!

Inspiration: Blue Skies, Streaks of White & Roiling Bubbles of Gray
Yes, roiling – a term used in the world of gemology and frequently
by rockhounds. And, that would be me! If you look at a pot of boiling water, you can see the general “roiling”
effect as bubbles leave the bottom on the pot and roll to the surface. There –
that’s what we mean by roiling and it does appear in gems and rocks, as well! And,
without a doubt it also happens in the sky – at least in this part of the world.

Pantone Fall 2014: Aluminum
Yippee,
yahoo and gadzooks! Let’s hear it for the Pantone Fall 2014 Color Report.
Aluminum – Pantone simply described it as a cross between silver and gray -- heavenly is
how I describe it. Yes, I am one of those people that absolutely loves the soft mysterious hues of the color gray. I am a bit of a purist, in that I like my gray, plain and simple.
So, I'm conflicted as to how I feel about the color combinations highlighted by various
designers in the Fall 2014 Color Report.

One Bracelet -- Five Looks in Black & Brown
A
long time favorite of mine – the combo of brown and black. I know…for years we
were told not to mix the two; but, I still say, rules be damned. It doesn’t really
matter does it? If you like it and it makes you feel good you should wear it,
right? When I first found a variety of these gorgeous works of Mother Nature in
Tucson many, many, many moons ago, I was immediately drawn to them. Not only
are the mother-of-pearl beads lovely to look at – they are so smooth and cool
that I think they make great touchstones.

Collars & Chokers & Trends, Oh My
While I love necklaces, I have never been a fan of a collar or choker style that is worn higher on my neck. I don’t know if it’s because I’m not so happy about how my neck looks and the fact that it has never been or ever will be swan-like; or if it’s my general claustrophobic nature kicking in that makes me feel as if I am being strangled when I wear anything tight. Who knows, maybe it’s just the name “choker” that sends me over the edge. Where is Freud when you need him?

How Do I Love Thee?

Let me count the ways. It's the best way to spend a Saturday morning...playing with jewelry. Thank goodness I have a business that I absolutely am head-over-heels in love with -- otherwise, I would be sitting here complaining to you all the time. Now, that would be fun, right? I was posting a few new pieces to the site this morning which, as you know, usually includes pix of different ways I like to style the piece. It hit me today that the options are limitless, really, limitless. I thought it would be fun to show you a few ways I styled one of my favorite styles -- the soft bangle.

Dundee, Cow Poop and Magnificient Mother-of-Pearl

Friday I had the fun of heading out to Dundee to meet up with my friend and hairdresser, Amy. It's about 20 miles, as the crow flies, and a lovely ride through hills and dales of farm land, hazelnut orchards, hops fields and lots of dairy cow and sheep pastures. I must admit, when they "blow" the cow poop from the dairy barns into the fields, it gets pretty stinky.

Happy Father's Day!

Well, here we are on Father's Day and once again...would you look at the sky? It's 55 degrees out with rain overnight -- so I guess I should be happy that the rain stopped. I wonder what the weather is in Nova Scotia -- do you think they have sunshine?

Another Ah-Ha Moment

I had another ah-ha moment over the weekend. I spent hours in the studio working on several pieces in this mother-of-pearl collection. The entire time I kept thinking that the pearls were very interesting, the light chocolate brown and black mother-of-pearl beads were exquisite and the gold vermeil beads were a terrific complement to the other beads.
