Inspiration: Moss & More

My house and studio are designed in such a way that I almost never use my front door. Honestly, the only time I walk on my porch is when I get packages or the mailman can’t squish something in the mailbox so he brings it up to the porch for me. Really can’t remember why I was out there earlier this week; but glad I was. (Wonder if my not being able to remember my reason for roaming is problematic or just a sign of old-age? Stay tuned…as you age you will find yourself asking the same question!) Either way I am glad that I was forced out there; had I not I might have missed how pretty the morning sunlight was playing with the moss. I know, who really looks at moss? Me! I have learned that Mother Nature is about as good of an artist as one can be; and all of this moss is just another perfect example of the wonder of it all.

Unexpected Delights

Even after years of the being in the creative flow of things, I am always surprised when the unexpected happens. Well, maybe I need to qualify that...the unexpected in jewelry design is what delights me, not so much as in the unexpected like in a BlackBerry outage. So, now that we are clear on that point -- yes, I love it when an unexpected thing happens in the jewelry studio.

Sun -- It's a Whole New Day!

Do you have any idea how magnificent it is to have sunshine? Those of you who live in a part of the world where it is cloudy and rainy a good portion of the time will totally get what I'm talking about. Those of you who live in places like Southern California and Australia won't have a clue!

Isn't It Just Dreamy?

I have been doing a lot of daydreaming these past few days -- maybe a bit of spring fever? Or is it just empty-headedness -- don't really know and not sure I want to figure that one out. I do know that I am really ready for spring to be here and stay for longer than a few hours.

What Time Is It? Really.

Can someone please tell me what time it is? But more importantly, can someone please explain why we continue with this archaic time-changing silliness? I understand why they first came up with the idea during World War One; but doesn't it seem a bit strange that we hang on to the "tradition" long after we need it?

Vintage Jewelry and Heavy Sighs

Did I mention that while I was in Tucson I finally watched Julie & Julia? What fun. Meryl Streep was an excellent Julia Child. In fact, throughout the movie I had to keep reminding myself it was Meryl that I was watching and not Julia.

I'm Still Amazed

While I know it is a new era in communication -- this whole global connection thing still blows my mind at times. Today I saw a link to my site that was surrounded by Japanese characters and the link made reference to a Japanese blog. No, I still don't have a customer in Japan, but that doesn't mean I won't have one tomorrow! The world keeps getting smaller and smaller and smaller. Don't you think?

Snow, snow, snow.

All the talk of snow in NYC is really making me homesick. I know, I know, after all these years I shouldn't feel "homesick" about the City; but I can't help myself. I am thinking it is because my life there was so different and so steeped in the wonder of it all that over the years it just became a part of my spirit; and not being there, I feel as if something is missing in me. After all, ten years is a long time to live somewhere -- in the same home.

Mystery and Glitter -- What?

So, you're asking "what do mystery and glitter have in common?" I know, the two words seem like a contradiction in terms (unless, of course, you are a stage magician); but believe me, in this necklace, the opposing qualities come together beautifully.

I'm In Heaven!

Is there anyone else out there who looks at a rock and swoons? I know, I know...I'm a bit on the geeky nut side. But, what can I say...I truly love gemstones; always have...always will. I have a lot of favs and pietersite is pretty close to the top of my list. Over the years this magnificent stone became harder and harder to come by so I haven't done anything with it in years. That being said, you can only imagine the joy I felt when I saw a few mighty specimens in Tucson last February.
